Once again Integrated Health is planning their annual event to help less fortunate children throughout Southern Illinois have the opportunity to wear new shoes and clothes to school.
The third annual 5k-10k run along with the family walk will be held on Oct. 19 starting at Integrated Health located at Parker Plaza, 303 South Commercial Street in Harrisburg. Additionally, this year the event will include a 5k-speed walk. The event starts at 9 a.m.
“I can’t begin to thank Integrated Health enough for their continued support of our mission,” says Dale Fowler, President of the Fowler-Bonan Foundation. “Last year’s event raised $4,400 and enable us to assist an additional forty children with new shoes and clothes to wear to school.
“It was the first time for many of these children to have the opportunity to do so.” This year about 60 children will be provided with these services.
“Not only has Integrated Health raised these funds for us they have been involved in the shopping process as well,” Fowler said.
The Clothes for Kids Program is a confidential program that works closely with school administrators, teachers, social workers, and other agencies. The program began nine years ago and supplied ten children the first year and now is helping hundreds of children throughout Southern Illinois. Each child that is referred receives three pair of jeans, four shirts, socks, underwear, a coat, and shoes, all brand new.
The Fowler-Bonan Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and can be contacted at 618-231-3904, and its mailing address is PO Box 848, Harrisburg IL, 62946.
“We chose to support the Fowler-Bonan Foundation with this event because of the outstanding work they do for children in Saline County and the surrounding areas”, said Dr. Brian Hester of Integrated Health. “The Clothes for Kids” program not only provides clothing, they provide hope for hundreds of less fortunate children and their families.”
The run and walk will also benefit the St. Kateri Church in Ridgway that was destroyed by the Feb. 29, 2012, tornado.
Those who would like the church to benefit from their entry fee may write “St. Kateri” or “Gallatin County” on the top of their registration sheet and $.50 of every dollar of the registration money will be donated to the St. Kateri Catholic Church Building Fund.
