  • Geraldine Grant, 92, of Johnston City, passed away 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Fountain View Nursing Center in Eldorado.

  • Geraldine Grant, 92, of Johnston City, passed away 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Fountain View Nursing Center in Eldorado.
    Geraldine was born June 13, 1921, at the New Virginia Mining Camp, near Johnston City to Harley and Addie (Metzger) Felkins. She married John R. “Pete” Grant on Sept. 22, 1940, in Jackson, Mo. Together they shared 64 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 2003.
    Geraldine was a homemaker and worked along with her husband on the family farm.   Sundays and holidays were always special days at Papa and Mama Pete’s house, as she would cook big dinners for her family. She also enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Her greatest love was her husband Pete and their children and grandchildren.
    She was a member of the First Christian Church in Johnston City. She was also a 50 year member of Home Extension and the Williamson County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed quilting and sewing.
    She is survived by three children and their spouses, Howard and Alice Grant of Herrin, David and Jeanne Grant of Galatia, Karen and Bud Steinmetz of Christopher;  four grandchildren, Mark Grant of Herrin, Ryan Grant and wife Becki of Galatia, Gina McClusky and husband Curt of Galatia  Lori Mohr of Herrin; several great-grandchildren, Wyatt Grant and Sean McClusky of Galatia, Julia Marie Mohr and Nicholas Mohr of Herrin; several nieces and nephews, Sharon Goodman of Marion, Kris Elliott of New Douglas, Ken McAnnelly of Marion, Darlene Martin of Dickinson, Texas, and Bill Ashworth of Olney.
    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Colin McClusky, six brothers and four sisters.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with the Rev. Ken Tiffin and the Rev. Roy Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
