Washington Street Park in Carrier Mills is suffering from continuing vandalism of the playground equipment.
For the last several weeks vandals have maliciously damaged the larger of the jungle gyms recently installed at the downtown park.
"This equipment is not cheap," stated Chris Mosier, president of the Carrier Mils Park Board. "There is already $500 to $600 worth of damage to this piece of equipment and the replacement parts will have to be purchased from the manufacturer."
The new playground equipment was purchased through a grant from the Dr. Pepper and Snapple companies and was installed last year in phase one of the park renovation projects. The playground equipment had a purchase price of some $10,000 to $12,000.
At the request of the park board, The Carrier Mills Police department is stepping up patrols of the area and the board is seriously considering offering a cash reward for any information that will help apprehend the vandals.
Mosier pointed out that the park and the equipment belong to all the citizens of Carrier Mills and it is in their benefit to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
