A Herrin woman believed to be suffering a medical condition crashed into a pump at the ROC 1 station on Commercial Street, Harrisburg, Wednesday evening.
Harrisburg Police Chief Bob Smith said the car was driven by Patricia A. Wilson of Herrin, who had been reported earlier as driving erratically.
At about 5:20 p.m. Wilson was reported as driving erratically on state Route 13 east toward Harrisburg, but then did a U-turn in the median near the railroad trestle and was driving back to Williamson County, Smith said. Dispatchers notified Williamson County Sheriff's Department, but evidently at some point she turned around again, eventually crashing into the gas pump.
Firefighters arrived and Captain James Jones said the pump automatically shut off at the moment of collision. Firefighters cleaned up a puddle of transmission fluid, he said.
Smith said Wilson had a facial injury believed to have been caused by a sign entering the car's window and cutting her.
She was taken by ambulance to Harrisburg Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries Smith said.
