  • Illinois State Police say three men were arrested after authorities found marijuana, about $25,000 in cash and an assault-style weapon in their rental car during a traffic stop in Southern Illinois.
The driver, Joshua A. Brown, 27, Hiram, Ga., was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapon and possession of cannabis 2.5 to 10 grams, and the passengers, Javier D. Padilla, 22, Kennesaw, Ga., and Morgan A. Brown, 19, Hiram, Ga., were charged with possession of cannabis 2.5 to 10 grams.
Police say the men were headed from Georgia to Colorado to buy marijuana when they were pulled over Tuesday on Interstate 64 in Washington County, east of St. Louis.
Police say the unidentified men aroused suspicion because they appeared nervous while being questioned. That prompted a search of their vehicle, where the money was found along with the assault-style rifle. Police say the driver also was carrying a handgun.
The driver is charged with possessing marijuana and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The passengers are facing a marijuana-possession charge.
"This is the type of police work that is representative of the Illinois State Police,” said Acting District Commander Kenneth Ryder. “I am very proud of the work our troopers and agents do and how they tirelessly serve the people of the state of Illinois. Removing illicit drugs, illegal guns, and monies raised from criminal activities off the roadways of Illinois is a focus of our patrol efforts.”
