A routine vehicle stop resulted in a high speed pursuit through the east side of Carrier mills on the night of Monday night according to Carrier Mills Police Public Information Officer Bill Duncan.
A Carrier Mills officer initiated the episode when he observed an individual fueling his vehicle the Casey's General Store approximately 9:30 p.m. The officer recognized the individual driving a black Ford Taurus and as the vehicle did not show as registered to that individual the officer became suspicious, Duncan said.
Running the individual through his patrol car's computer, the officer learned that the suspect, Troy L. Ash, 52, of Carrier Mills, had an outstanding warrant from Effingham county for violation of probation and driving with license revoked.
According to the Saline County Detention Center records the Effingham County warrant was for failure to appear in court.
The Carrier Mills officer located the vehicle on the east side of the village and executed a vehicle stop on Allen Street. As he approached the driver's side of the vehicle the Ash fled, Duncan said. Police notified the Saline County Central Dispatch Ash was fleeing and he was in pursuit. A Harrisburg Police Department detective and two Saline County Sheriff's deputies responded to assist.
Ash fled at speed through the east side of Carrier Mills for several minutes before abandoning his vehicle near the intersection of Washington and Allen Streets and fleeing on foot, Duncan said.
Responding officers were alerted by Saline County dispatch of a report from a citizen of a male subject in her yard.
Arriving at the intersection of Carline and East End Streets, the officers found that Ash had run into a wooded area northwest of the intersection, become stuck in a briar-patch and was unable to continue.
Sheriff's deputies and the Harrisburg Police detective entered the woods and extricated Ash from the briars, placing him under arrest.
According to the Saline County Detention Center records Ash faces Saline County charges of driving while license revoked, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, disobeying a traffic control device, speeding and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
