For the second straight night, the Harrisburg High School volleyball team took its opponent to the distance.
Massac County got the better of the Bulldogs Thursday night, earning a Southern Illinois River-to-River Ohio Division matchup with a three set win.
Harrisburg fell behind 25-13 in the first, only to rally in the second, wining 25-23. Massac County took the third and final set with a 25-16 victory.
"Massac has always been a fundamentally sound team," Harrisburg head coach Stephanie Ferrell said."They played excellent defense against our hitters with blocks and digs. We have to work on hitting around the blocks and tooling off them more."
Whitney Younger went 12-for-15 on hits with one kill, while Devan Jones went 10-for-11 on hits with four kills. Hayley Thompson finished 7-for-8 with one kill, while Ashley Ferrell went 6-for-7 with three kills and nine digs on the night.
Malayna Douglas, who finished 34-for-40 on sets with seven assists had 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs. Whitney Younger tacked on 12 digs, while Brittany Reynolds added 11. Reynolds went 31-for-35 on sets with three assists as well. Hannah Bartok also had nine digs, while Parker Upchurch finished with six.
Thompson led Harrisburg with five blocks, while Devan Jones and Brantlea Jones each had two.
The Harrisburg junior varsity team also lost in three sets, winning the first 25-12, but falling 25-22 and 16-14 in the final two. The Bulldog freshmen lost in straight sets 25-14 and 25-14.
