There's a great understand and respect that Brandon Hampton has for Elverado-Trico head coach Mike McElroy.
The former Southern Illinois University football standout is now the head coach for the Falcons and finds himself in a similar situation Hampton found himself in about six years ago.
"They've gone through a lot of coaching changes," Hampton said of Elverado-Trico. "That's what Mike is trying to do is just provide some stability. Its very similar to when I took over here. You have three or four different coaches in three or four years and ids are looking for an identity and hopefully Mike can provide that for them over there."
McElroy spent some time as an assistant on Kerry Martin's staff at Marion before taking the head coaching job at Elverado-Trico. Much like Hampton had an uphill battle in reviving the Eldorado program, he knows McElroy has a big mountain to climb himself.
"He's a dynamic person with a great pedigree," Hampton said. The numbers are not very good. It's an extreme challenge, but if there's anyone who can do it, Mike can."
As the Eagles look to keep their unbeaten streak in tact Week 4 against the Falcons.
While many challenges still present itself, one that Hampton is dealing with is keeping his squad focused in what could be considered a chaotic week.
"It's a challenging week for us. it's homecoming and there are all the challenges that come along with it. We're at the top of the Black Diamond with Chester and Fairfield and Elverado is a program that is struggling and our people are well aware of that.
It'll be a real challenge for us to keep our team focused all week and that we're improving from Week 3 to 4."
