  • A Harrisburg occupational therapist who works for a Carmi firm was chosen Tuesday evening to replace Molly Wilson-Dearing on the Harrisburg Community Unit School District No. 3 Board.
Billy G. Smith has twins in the eighth grade at Harrisburg Middle School. He also has three grandchildren in the school system.
"I want to provide the best support for the children and the staff at the schools," he said after the meeting. "We have to study carefully the options for a new high school building. I am in favor of a new building."
Board member Michelle Way was picked to be the new board secretary, replacing Dearing in this role.
Dearing left the board as well as her seat on the Saline County Board following an appointment by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to be an arbitrator of the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission.
