  • Harrisburg plays hosts to Tigers in inaugural soccer match

  • The Harrisburg High School soccer team welcomed Herrin Saturday in what was the Tigers' first official game of the year.
    Harrisburg hosted Herrin at Michael Herrin Field and then by the Tigers 7-1.
    "This was their first game of their first season," Harrisburg head coach Mike Stewart said. "This was the inauguration of Herrin soccer and we were glad to host it and to be a part of Herrin soccer history. For their first game, Herrin had very respectable performance. We look forward to a long a healthy competitive relationship in the future."
    James Curtis, Luke Horton and Carver Gregg all had first half goals at the Bulldogs built a 3-1 lead.
    Harrisburg poured on four goals in the second half as Braden McConnell, Hunter Fields, Brennan Hawkins and Horton all had second half goals.
    Hawkins spent five minutes in goal for the Bulldogs, but Harrisburg junior Ryan Cowsert got the win in goal.
    Harrisburg (5-5) is scheduled to play at Marion Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
