  • The Harrisburg High School soccer ball team took to the road over the weekend, falling to South Knox, Ind., 2-1.
The game itself however was a special one for Harrisburg head coach Mike Stewart as he and South Knox head coach Tim Goodwin were teammates when the two played prep soccer at Lincoln High School in Vincennes, Ind.
Prior to the game, both Stewart and Goodwin honored their high school coach Ron Alexander by having captains of both teams distribute team jerseys to Alexander.
"It was a very special day for me," Stewart said. " Being able to see both a former teammate of mine and my high school coach, brought back some special memories. It was good to see so many familiar faces.
"In spite of the ceremonial day, the Spartans took control the first half and caught us on our heels," said Stewart, "Our defensive line was flat and the second half was a much better half and had we played the entire game the way we did the second half, I think the outcome would have been different. We controlled the ball much better as well as attacked with determination."
Cody Morris provided the game's lone goal for the Bulldogs, while Harrisburg did have 12 shots on goal.
Ryan Cowsert took the loss in goal for Harrisburg, giving up two goals on six saves.
James Curtis has the assist on Morris' goal, while Curtis had four shots on goal Saturday. Luke Horton had two shots on goal, while Hunter Ragan, Bailey Drone and Brandon Duffield all had one.
"One of the frustrations of the game of soccer is to posses the ball 70% of the time but yet the scoreboard shows a different outcome," Stewart said.
