The SIU Museum will host a reception for 39 of the photographs from Herb Russell's book "The State of Southern Illinois: An Illustrated History" on 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in Faner Hall's first floor, north end.
Seventeen photographs taken by southeastern Illinois photographers will be in the exhibit, including those by Brian DeNeal, Charles Hammond, David Hammond, Shannon Woodworth and the late Harry L. Porter.
The work of other scholars will also be in the exhibit, including findings at a Sauk village occupied by Black Hawk conducted by SIUC archaeologist Mark Wagner, frequent contributor to "Springhouse" magazine.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served. Parking for those arriving after 5 p.m. will probably be available in lots serving Morris Library.
