Wanda G. (McDowell) Johnson, 91, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Newburgh Healthcare Center.
She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Harrisburg, to Louie and Verna (Alexander) McDowell.
For many years, Wanda lived in Eldorado and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Later she relocated to Pontiac, Mich., and worked for First America Bank in Pontiac until her retirement. After retiring she moved back to the area, living in Evansville, Ind., at Lakeside Manor and Atria Senior Living prior to Newburgh Healthcare Center. Wanda's greatest enjoyment came from playing the piano for other residents at Atria and Newburgh Healthcare Center.
She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Nichols (Ralph) of Boonville, Ind., and Carleen Shaffer of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Julie Freeman, Jodi Pierrot, Jana Gabrione, Timothy, Maxwell and Steven Shaffer; nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lindsay and Taylor Freeman, Jackson, Luke, Olivia, and Isabel Gabrione, Grant and Hadley Shaffer.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, Ind. 47714.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Darren Sroufe officiating.
Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.
