  • The Carrier Mills village board is considering changes to the village fire call ordinance.
At the last village board meeting, the board reviewed the proposed changes to the fire call ordinance, specifically changes affecting non-residents involved in vehicle accidents requiring a response by the fire department.
The proposed ordinance would require non-residents of Carrier Mills involved in a vehicle accident to pay a fee ranging from $750 to $1,250 depending on the location of the accident. The board’s rational behind this change is based on financial considerations. The residents of the village support the fire department through taxes and non-residents should be required to reimburse the village for the costs of a response to an accident.
If an accident occurs inside the corporate limits of the village, non-residents would be required to pay a $750 fee. An accident outside of the corporate limits would see the fee raise to $1,250. The proposed ordinance further stipulates that residents of Carrier Mills would be exempt from this fee and that these changes would in no way affect the standard fee of $2,000 for fire calls to structure or field fires.
