  • The Woodmen of the World are providing the labor to form a new not-for-profit organization with the purpose of raising funds for the new Harrisburg Senior Citizen's Council building on Veteran's Drive in Harrisburg.
The new not-for-profit, formed under the Woodmen's Red Basket program, will be tasked with fundraising activities for the senior organization. The Senior Citizen's Council lost its building in the Leap Day tornado Feb. 29, 2011. Housed in that building was the Harrisburg Golden Circle Nutritional Program that provides the daily lunch and entertainment and volunteers to carry out the Meals On Wheels program in the Harrisburg area.
They expect to have the building completed before the end of the year and to host a Christmas party on the premises.
Since Woodmen of the World covers the administrative costs of Red Basket the proceeds all go to the Senior Citizen's Council with no administration costs to the council. The Woomen's Red Basket program is a nationwide effort.
