Jesse L. Vailes Sr., 75, of 25 Carter Street in Eldorado, died Aug. 3, 2013, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born in Nortonville, Ky., on Oct. 23, 1936, to the late Elbert and Marie (Slaten) Vailes. He was a veteran and worked as a coal miner and in the oil fields for Bill Baker out of Norris City.
On Oct. 5, 1942, he married the former Shirley Ann Riley and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2009. Also surviving are his three sons: Jesse Vailes Jr., Larry (Sheryl) Vailes and Terry (Fonda) Vailes all of Eldorado; three daughters: Debbie Vailes, Darlene (Steve) Randolph and Mona (Roger) Frields, all of Eldorado; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother: Jerry Vailes of Norris City; four sisters: Edna Cathey of Carmi, Sandra Kay Cutchins of Carmi, Shirley Ann Kelly of Eldorado and Gracie Juanita of Carrier Mills.
He was preceded in death by a son Frank Jo Vailes and a daughter Cathy Vailes Melody. He was also preceded in death by a brother John Earl Vailes and three sisters Francis Eckard, Sharon Sue Gurtis and Sheliba Gay Riley.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Sister Toby Hise will be officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the funeral home.
