Thelma Lorene Jones, age 95, of Eldorado, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Lorene was born on Dec. 11, 1917, in Harrisburg to the late Austin and Ollie (Pickering) Martin.
Lorene married Wayne Kerr in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1968. She married Layman Jones who preceded her in death in 1994.
She is survived by a stepson: Bill (Janet) Jones of Eldorado; two grandsons: Eric (Sarah) Chaney and Erin (Beth) Chaney; two step-grandchildren: Mark Jones and Sarah (Joel) Hood; nieces and nephews: Greg (Debbie) Martin, Bob (Jean) Martin, Karen (Doug) Hope and Joan Morris; nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Trina Chaney; son: Phillip Kerr; brothers: Robert and Austin Martin; and sister: Helen Blankenship.
After graduating Harrisburg High School in 1936, Lorene became a beautician and retired from A.L. Bowen Children’s Center. She was a lifetime member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling, quilting, and spending time on the Ohio River with both Wayne and Layman. Lorene will truly be missed. She was a special lady to everyone who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice or McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
