Andre Wilson, 29, is a graduate of Kentucky Western University with a degree in Criminal Justice/Homeland Security and is spending his summer with the Saline County Sheriff's Office.
Born in Jamaica, Andre is here on a student visa. He received a basketball scholarship at Southeastern Illinois College in 2006. When he graduated from SIC in 2008 he enrolled at Kentucky Western. He graduated from Kentucky Western in 2010.
He returned to Jamaica for a year but returned here where he plans to work towards his citizenship.
For the summer he is an intern at the Saline County Sheriff's Office. He is experiencing the American system from the inside.
"Here, a case takes forever, compared to Jamaica. They are quicker. But justice is better here. In Jamaica they are not as thorough. In Jamaica, if you do not have a good witness, it is probably over. Case closed," he said. "They probably won't spend as much time on a case."
He is enthusiastic about becoming a U.S. citizen.
"I think most Americans don't understand what they have here. There is good reason why so many want to immigrate here," he said.
