  • Watching an autopsy is better than watching CSI on television for summer intern Katie Clayton, 20.
A Harrisburg resident, she is a May, 2013, graduate of Southeastern Illinois College with majors in political science and pre-law.
She takes her political science seriously. She plans to be mayor of Harrisburg.
Riding in patrol cars is interesting, but she says that the event she liked best was watching an autopsy.
"Last fall I worked on the campaign for coroner. It made me aware of what the job requires. I found it interesting and the autopsy really was the most fun I have had this summer," said Clayton.
Clayton made the most of her time at SIC.
"At SIC I learned leadership, government and participated in community service projects. We helped with tornado relief, Shop With A Cop, the blood drive and voter registration," she said.
Clayton comes from a mixed political background.
"I am a Democrat. My dad is a Republican and my mom is independent.
"I feel that the Democrats are for the people. They have provided welfare, healthcare and help the unions," she said.
Clayton plans to resume her college career in the fall.
"In the fall I will start classes again, probably online with SIU," she said.
She is also developing a new interest in medical science.
