  • There's still plenty of miles on the rubber for Harrisburg's Tyler Smithpeters and Capel Henshaw, but when they laced up their sneakers as prep players at the recent Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game at the Shirk Center in Bloomington.
Smithpeters and Henshaw — both members of the Class 1A-2A South All-Star Team lost to the North All-Star team 111-101, where Henshaw poured in 14 points on six field goals, two of which were from long range, while Smithpeters wasn't far behind with 13 points, including two trifectas of his own.
For Henshaw the experience of closing out his high school career with his teammate and one of his best friends is one he'll never forget.
"It was really a great experience and opportunity because you get a chance to play with and against players that you read about but have never have seen them play," Henshaw said. "It's was also fun to lace up the sneakers one more time with Tyler. You also meet new people such as coaches and the people in charge of the whole game. That all star is game has had some high profile players play in the past so it was an honor to play one last time in that game."
Henshaw also received the Leadership Award for the IA-2A team. The Lewis University basketball signee said the only better than than achieving that award was getting it from his former coach.
"It's an award I'm proud of and it was even more special because coach Smithpeters presented me with the award."
Smithpeters, who will be attending Southern Illinois University was unable to be reached by press time.
