Blanche Virginia Plunkett, 100, of Eldorado, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Herrin Hospital.
She was born in Eldorado on June 20, 1913, to the late Anderson Buell (Roxie Edna Stinson) Porter. On June 1, 1930, she married Howard Plunkett and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1992.
She was born, raised and spent her entire life on the same farm where she raised her five children. She was an active member of Gholson Grove Church and Eldorado First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Woman's Missionary Union member. She raised a Christian family to include four ministers, a Christian school administrator, missionaries and church deacons.
Survivors include her three sons: A.B. (Rosa Lee) Plunkett of DuQuoin, Paul (Jean) Plunkett of Carbondale, Max (June Lynn) Plunkett of Eldorado and one daughter, Janet (Jess) Garrison of Phoenix, Ariz; also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Karen Dover, Randy Plunkett, Carla Bishop, Michael Plunkett, Julie Plunkett Brigham, Jeffrey Garrison, Nathan Garrison, Craig Garrison, Audrey Plunkett and Lee Plunkett and stepgrandaughter Mary Ann Futia. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren: Joshua Dover, Joy Costephens, Andrea Austin, Amber Todey, Rebekah Futia, David Bishop, Daniel Bishop, Benjamin Bishop, Anna Bishop, Jackson Brigham, Lily Brigham, Ruby Brigham, Samuel Brigham, Nicholas Plunkett, Corinna Plunkett, Ada June Plunkett, Bret Plunkett, Hannah Marie Garrison; and four great-great-grandchildren, Patrick Dover, Ethan Dover, Aiden Todey and Jaya Todey.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Rita June Plunkett on Nov. 16, 1946. She was also preceded in death by five sisters: Rannie Blackburn, Iva Roberts, Cora Beasley, Mamie Porter and an infant sister.
She was also preceded in death by eight brothers: Raleigh, Lee, Lyman, Luther, Fred, Dan, Everett and Roscoe.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Eldorado First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Plunkett officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Watson Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and also at the church on Wednesday morning after 10 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Eldorado First Baptist Church Building Fund and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
