Dale Fowler remembers when he had 50-plus golfers show up for his inaugural "Clothes For Kids" Golf Day at Shawnee Hills Country Club.
Now, nine years later, not much has changed about Fowler's outreach program except for one thing: the number of golfers.
Folwer expects some 110-115 golfers in attendance July 18th and 19th in Harrisburg with Fowler's mission statement staying the same.
"It's a fun-filled day for the children, and an even greater day for the kids we serve," said Fowler. "Our junior golf event sponsors help us raise significant dollars for our foundation, and we welcome everyone's support of our mission to clothe underprivileged children."
The "Clothes For Kids" program is now in 11 countries in southern Illinois, instead of one (Saline) like it was nine years ago. The Fowler-Bonan Foundation provides new clothing and shoes, at no cost, for underprivileged children based on a referral system from area schools.
The Junior Golf Day on July 18 is for children ages four to 11, while July 19th is for children ages 12 to 18.
"One thing we don't do is turn any kid away," Fowler said. "Every child that participates receives an award and it's important during that time for me to tell each and every one of them 'thank you' because of them we are able to help other children.
"The Junior Golf Day doesn't have to be competitive, we accept those that are just being introduced to golf. What's important is that those who come out have fun and enjoy their day on the golf course."
