Nathan Clarida, 35, Galatia, was killed in a coal hauling accident at Peabody Energy's Wildcat Hills Mine near Eldorado Tuesday.
Coroner Jerry Watson said a post-mortem examination is scheduled today.
Saline County Central Dispatch received a call of a mine accident at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday, according a release from Saline County Coroner's Office Jerry Watson.
Amy Louviere, spokesman for the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration, said Clarida was struck by a ram car. A ram car hauls coal from the continuous miner machine.
"A ram car was moving through the ventilation curtain underground, hit the miner and killed him," Louviere said.
MSHA has issued a closure order on the mine and is to begin an investigation, Louviere said.
Clarida was pronounced dead at the mine at 2:14 p.m., according to Watson.
Peabody says through a prepared release the mine has been idled pending investigation, and appropriate officials with the state and federal government have been notified.
The Peabody Energy release stated Wildcat Hills deeply mourns the loss of a fellow employee, and expresses its sympathies to family members, coworkers and friends.
