Wanda E. Taylor, 88, formerly of Harrisburg passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, in Tempe, Ariz.
She was born in Saline County June 28, 1924, the daughter of Ralph and Audie Cox Ferrell. On June 7, 1947, she married Roger Taylor. He preceded her in death May 17, 1995.
Wanda graduated from Golconda High School and later started her teaching career. Her first teaching job was in a single room school in Rudement where she taught all eight grades. She and Roger also ran the 4-Way Cafe in Harrisburg for six years before moving to Sauk Village in Cook County and continuing her teaching career, retiring from the Sauk Village School District. Upon moving back to Harrisburg, she took a job as receptionist at Southeastern Illinois College.
She is survived by two sons, David (Anne) Taylor, Tempe, Ariz., and Daniel (Vicki) Taylor, of Crete; one brother, Dennis (Ann) Ferrell, Herod; five grandchildren, Melissa, Christopher, Trent, Rebekah and Stephanie Taylor; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Taylor; a brother, Gene Ferrell; and a sister, Wilma Walker.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Dorrisville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating and burial will be at Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
