Jerome "Romey" Jones, age 86, of Harrisburg, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at his residence in Harrisburg.
Jerome was born on Feb. 14, 1927, in Harrisburg, to the late Sam T. Jones and Martha (Purvis) Jones. He married Denita Gwin on Oct. 8, 1947, and she survives in Harrisburg. Jerome was a carpenter by trade and a World War II Army veteran. He was also a member of the Harrisburg Elks lodge, the Eagles lodge, the American Legion George Hart Post, and the Carpenters Union.
In addition to his wife, Denita, Jerome is survived by a daughter, Johnita Jones; two grandchildren, Todd Carder and wife Heidi of Harrisburg, and Brigette Owens and husband David of Harrisburg; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Wilton and husband James, Dalton Carder, and Kaylynn Owens; and brother, Leo Jones and wife Patsy of Harrisburg.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James "Buck" Jones, John "Rats" Jones, Sam Jones and Richard "Diamond" Jones; five sisters, Jan Jones, Margaret Shover, Dolly Farrar, Martha Pierson, and Peggy Lane.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Howard Stearns will officiate, and burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
