Norma Jean Pritchett, 83, Harrisburg passed away 10:15 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Harrisburg the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle Walden Hooten. She married Billy Gene Pritchett and he preceded her death July 31, 1997. Jean was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star.
She retired from Amax Coal Co. where she had started as a secretary and worked her way up, joining the union and becoming a coal miner. She worked every job available at the mine from shoveling coal on the beltline to driving a haul truck. She was owner of Jeadon Inc. Trucking Co.
She is survived by one son, Don (Pattt) Pritchett, Harrisburg; one daughter, Debbie (Jerry) Abney, Harrisburg; one sister, Margaret Ann Matthews of Hobart, Ind.; eight children, Jared (Mindy) Abney, Ginger (Joshua) Easton, Dallas (Amanda) Pritchett, Austin (Jason) Snyder, Katie (Jeromy) Hayes, Shannon (Kent) Roser, Amy (David) Broster.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a son, Roger Pritchett; a brother, Harold "Rusty" Hooten; two sisters, Nina Hooten and Ina Drutella Jones; and a grandson, Zack Pritchett.
Graveside services will precede burial at 11 a.m. Thursday June 20, 2013, at Lindale Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Peroit officiating. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
