  • Gov. Pat Quinn has called a special session for lawmakers this month, but some leaders aren't clear for what.
Quinn released a statement Thursday blasting lawmakers for inaction on Illinois' nearly $100 billion pension problem and saying lawmakers need to return to Springfield June 19. The announcement follows news that Moody's Investors Service lowered Illinois' credit rating.
However, House Speaker Michael Madigan's spokesman Steve Brown said Thursday he thought the special session was to deal with guns, not pensions. The General Assembly sent Quinn a bill legalizing concealed carry of guns. Lawmakers had to come up with a law after an appeals court ruled Illinois' ban unconstitutional.
Quinn declines to say what parts of the plan, if any, he supports. If he vetoes it, lawmakers could override it.
