A bobcat was killed Friday night on U.S. Route 45 between Liberty Road and Ledford.
The cat was struck by a car said Saline County's Chief Deputy Ken Clore Tuesday. "The Illinois State Department of Natural Resources declined to go to the scene and said we should dispose of the carcass rather than give it to the motorist who wanted to take it to a taxidermist to have it stuffed and mounted. The DNR said that is not allowed."
Bobcats were taken off the Illinois threatened species list in 1999, but are still protected from hunting or trapping.
