The Galatia-Thompsonville High School softball team earned its third straight regional championship Saturday, knocking off Crab Orchard 13-3.
The Bearcats pounded out 19 hits on the day as Kylee Brown went 5-for-5 in the leadoff position.
It also helped Galatia-Thompsonville's cause that Crab Orchard committed seven errors on the day.
"We kept putting the bat on the ball and forcing them to make plays," Bearcat head coach Kevin Lewis said. "We didn't back off and scattered out our hits and got down our bunts. I told the girls to go after them right from the get go."
Galatia-Thompsonville scored in every inning, plating one in the third and tacking on two in the second and another in the third. The Bearcats then put up four runs in the fourth, as well as, four runs in the fifth, before closing the game out with the 10-run rule in the sixth with a run.
Emily Reed finished 4-for-5 for Galatia-Thompsonville in the No. 3 spot, while Liz Sloan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Baylee Blackburn and Lexi Johnson each went 2-for-4 as Blackburn had two RBIs and Johnson had one. Madison Fletcher finished 2-for-5 on the day.
Having six kids with multiple hits certainly helped Lewis cause as he helped lead his team to its third straight title. Some of the defensive gems also helped.
"Lexi Johnson had a heck of a game defensively," Lewis said. "She made a great catch in the fourth inning that saved two runs and made two other outstanding catches on the day."
Galatia-Thompsonville will now get a third straight sectional matchup with Goreville, only this time in the semifinals of the championship. The last two matchups have been in the finals. The two will meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Goreville.
