  • Prep Baseball: Carrier Mills-Stonefort survives in regional win over Cougars

  • The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School baseball team advanced in the Pope County 1A Baseball Regional with a 9-3 victory over Hardin County Monday afternoon.
    The Wildcats got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the first and another two runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Carrier Mills-Stonefort than tacked on a run in the fourth, before Hardin County put up all three of its runs in the sixth inning. Carrier Mills-Stonefort then closed out the contest with two runs in the top of the seventh.
    Dalton Summers got the win, going the distance, allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits while striking out 12 and walking one.
    Anthony Kalodner got things going in the first when he led off with a single, which followed Summer reaching base on an error. Darren Betz then delivered a two-run double and Josh Bailey followed with an RBI single of his own. Loren Whiting finished things off with an RBI double.
    In the second inning, Kalodner singled and stole second, as did Summers. Betz then drove both in with a two-run single.
    Kalodner singled in the fourth, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch.
    In the seventh, Whiting drove in Betz and Bailey with a two-run double.
    Betz finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Whiting went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kalodner went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored.
    The Wildcats are now slated to play at Pope County Wednesday against Gallatin County at 4:30 p.m.
    Hamilton County 10, Eldorado 7
    ELDORADO - The Eldorado High School baseball team bowed out of the Harrisburg Class 2A Regional Monday, losing at home to Hamilton County 10-7.
    Eldorado tied the ballgame at 2-all after one inning of play, but watched as the Foxes put up three runs in the second, two runs in the third and another run in the fourth to build an 8-2 advantage.
    Hamilton County then scored two runs in the top of the sixth and Eldorado tried to rally with four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles were able to plate one more in the bottom of the seventh, but their rally fell short.
    Tyler Deaton went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Jordan Pilkington and Dylan Roberts each finished 2-for-3. Pilkington scored a pair of runs and drove in a run, while Roberts had one RBI.
    Brennan Unthank, Devin Aldridge, Adam Collier, Dakota Prather, Garrison Hathaway and Stanton Hathaway all had a hit.
    On the mound, Drew Woolcott took the loss, going 1.67 of an inning and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits, while striking out two.
    Adam Ninness, Braydon VanZant and Dakota Prather also saw mound time in relief Monday.
