  • Galatia-Thompsonville first baseman Baylee Blackburn was honored Thursday as the lone senior on this year's softball team. Following the festivities, Blackburn went out in style as she finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, helping the Bearcats to a 19-4 rout of Crab Orchard.
Liz Sloan and Emily Reed both went 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBIs as Galatia-Thompsonville scored in every inning.
The Bearcats took a 5-2 lead after one inning of play and added three runs in the second and finished with five runs in the third. Galatia-Thompsonville finally put the game out of reach, scoring six runs in the fourth inning.
Crab Orchard did plate three runs in the fifth, but the short-lived rally fell short.
Larissa Bond (15-4) got the win in the circle for Galatia-Thompsonville. Bond went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits. She struck out two and walked one.
Reed came on in relief and struck out four, allowing one earned run on two hits for the Bearcats (18-8).
Galatia-Thompsonville is slated to play at Carrier Mills today (Thursday) and then is scheduled to play host to Anna-Jonesboro in a double header Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
Saturday's game will be the Bearcats' annual Pink Out game. This year all the monies raised from concession sales will go to Hardin County softball player Karli Cowsert, who is battling a rare form of leukemia.
