Marcus James Willis, 83, McLeansboro, died 12:47 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
He was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Norris City to Alfred and Annabella (McKinzie) Willis. He married Vera Rose (Arbic) Willis Aug. 10, 1951, in Harrisburg. He worked as a millwright for Ford Motor Co. in Chicago Heights. He served in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He loved to farm, fish, travel and loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Willis; three daughters, Debra Slobodnik and husband Bill of Lemont, Janet Grape and husband Rodney of Villa Rica, Ga., and Lori Frey and husband Carl of Peotone; one son, Ronald Willis of Crowne Point; one sister, Margaret Morgan of Fenn Lake, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth Willis and wife Wilma of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home. Arrangements are in the charge of Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
