On Saturday area U.S. Postal Service letter carrier will have extra large bundles to distribute as they deliver the mail and take away donation food items from customers.
The Natioanal Association of Letter Carriers and the Campbell Soup Company will be participating in the Stamp Out Hunger program for the 21st year, according to a release from the Harrisburg Post Office.
Held the second Saturday in May, the food drive has become the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
Postal customers who would like to help in the effort may leave a study bag containing non-perishable food items — canned soups, canned vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, rice or cereal — next to mailboxes prior to the time of regular mail delivery Saturday. Rural and city letter carriers will collect the donations as they deliver the mail and take them to a local food pantry.
Donations may also be taken to the area post offices.
