For the fifth time this season, Harrisburg got a no-hit performance from its pitching staff. Ryne Roper and Blake Buchanan combined to toss the no-hitter as the Bulldogs took down Hamilton County in five innings, 11-0, Wednesday afternoon to spoil the Foxes senior day.
Roper struck out five as he worked the first four frames. The University of Illinois signee also homered for the seventh time on the spring and drove in four runs.
The Bulldogs (25-3) got on the board with a run-scoring ground out from Cody Hall in the first inning before plating two more runs in the top of the second.
Roper’s three-run blast helped Harrisburg tack on to its lead in the third before the Bulldogs threw up four additional runs in the fourth inning.
Catcher Brady Mayer finished with two hits, along with Noah Vallette and Carson Batts.
Nick Davis reached base three times, and the Bulldogs got hits from Matthew Phipps, Sykes Thompson and Chris Willsey. Brennan Street added to the offense with a RBI.
Hamilton County sophomore Tucker Braden worked into the third inning and suffered the loss for the Foxes (5-19).
HHS pounded out 14 hits on the afternoon as it won for the 17th time in the past 18 decisions.
Roper improved to 10-0 on the mound and has now fanned 91 hitters in 57 innings this year.
Harrisburg is set to travel to Webber Township Thursday afternoon and will then play two games Saturday in Olney.
Goreville 10, Eldorado 4
ELDORADO - The Eldorado High School baseball team hung tough with Goreville in the early going, but the Blackcats put up a five-run fourth in knocking off the Eagles 10-4 Wednesday at the EHS Sports Complex.
Eldorado had five hits on the day in scoring their four runs, which included a three-run first that saw the Eagles get to within one of Goreville at 4-3.
Adam Collier went 2-for-4 at the dish with a run and an RBI. Meanwhile, Jordan Pilkington, Garrison Hathaway and Stanton Hathaway all had one hit.
Pilkington, Dakota Prather and Stanton Hathaway all had an RBI, while Brennan Unthank, Devin Aldridge and Garrison Hathaway all scored a run for the Eagles.
Pilkington took the loss on the mound for Eldorado, going four innings and allowing two earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out one and walking two.
Drew Woolcott came in for relief, giving up a hit and striking out two over three innings.
Century 7, Carrier Mills 2
CARRIER MILLS - A couple of late errors by Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School resulted in a 7-2 loss to Century Wednesday.
An error in the fifth allowed a one to score and two more errors in the sixth opened the door for three more runs as Century took a tight 3-2 ballgame and opened it up.
Page 2 of 2 - Carrier Mills-Stonefort (8-13) scored a run in the second when Tyler Cantrell had an RBI single, scoring David Goodman who reached base after roping a double.
Goodman then got on via walk in the fourth inning and Cantrell hit a shot to shortstop that resulted in an error to score Goodman.
Loren Whiting went three innings and allowed three runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk. Dalton Summers went three innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, while striking out two.
