  • Egyptian Health Department is offering people a chance to get rid of that old television or computer collecting dust in the garage with its series of Electronics Recycling Collections.
The first event will be held at the Shawneetown Town Square 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 17. The following day, Saturday, May 18, it will be in Carmi at the Carmi Township Yard on Burrell Street, according to a release from Egyptian Health Department.
Landfills cannot accept most electronics, so this is an opportunity to dispose of these items safely and legally. Also, there is no fee to drop off items. Examples of items to bring are computers, televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners, DVD/VCR players, copiers, cash registers and cell phones.
Items that cannot be accepted are appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and dishwashers or anything containing liquid.
Anyone with questions may contact Dan January at Egyptian Health Department at 618-273-3326 ext. 2712.
