The other night on Twitter there was some back, and forth on beer, and perceptions of beer for women.
The gist of the conversation was that the beer industry tends to think hoppy beers are for men, and chocolate, or fruity beers are for women. I don’t know what I think, but I do know the perception of hoppy beers being drunk by mostly men is out there. †andy
How this came to be I don’t know. I’ve also heard people refer to wheat ales as girly beers, because they have hints of orange, or a slice of lemon is put on the edge of the glass.
I hate this prejudice as I love wheat ales, and think they have a very complex taste, and aroma that you don’t get in most beers. Why does beer have to be saddled with one type of beer being geared for one gender or another? A good beer is gender neutral, and a person’s personal taste is what will dictate what they drink.
On second thought, I guess I do know what I think about all this.
