  • Peabody Energy awarded Carol Taylor, teacher at Harrisburg Learning Alternative Branch School, with a Peabody Energy Leader 2012-13 award Friday.
The award includes a check for $1,000 presented by Peabody employee Brandon Risner.
Peabody awards outstanding teachers throughout the school year and then during summer break brings them all together for a banquet and grand prize award of $5,000.
Taylor, a high school instructor, is dedicated to providing a safe environment to educate and mold the leaders of tomorrow, according to a release from Peabody Energy. Her first goal of teaching is to assist students in learning the skills needed to survive in the real world and provide an environment where they thrive.
Taylor has been instrumental in running Harrisburg Learning Alternative’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program. In addition to teaching, she serves on the Transition Planning Committee, which helps teachers, parents and students become aware of the programs available to students with special needs. In the past, she coordinated the Workforce Investment Act in eight counties, in which she helped low-income and special education students in find jobs.
The Peabody Energy Leaders in Education program rewards dedicated education professionals—from teachers and coaches to librarians and counselors—who inspire and motivate youth to succeed. Award recipients are selected throughout the school year by a committee of top educators and business leaders.
“We are pleased to recognize Carol Taylor as a Peabody Energy Leader in Education,” said Greg Boyce, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Peabody Energy. “At Peabody, we believe education is key to building strong communities. It changes lives and lasts a lifetime, and we thank Carol for her important contributions to this field.”
