The Illinois Secretary of State’s Organ/Tissue Donor Program will be at the Harrisburg District Library to provide information regarding the importance of registering as an organ and tissue donor 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
Currently, more than 118,000 Americans — 5,000 in Illinois — are awaiting a life saving organ transplant and thousands more are in need of tissue transplants, according to a press release from the library. April is National Donate Life Month.
A donor designation station will be set up in the library with a presentation to the public at noon in the library conference room.
Stu Switzer, a Harrisburg resident and organ recipient will be on hand, along with Brian Bush from the Illinois Secretary of State’s Organ/Tissue Donor Program to present information on donation and to register individuals as donors.
