Eldorado property taxpayers should see a significant decrease in their bills one the abatement of taxes used to pay off the high school takes effect.
The board voted in the March meeting to abate taxes for 2012 payable in 2013 in the Bond and Interest Fund in the amount if $250,000.
That money is now being paid by the 1 percent school facilities tax. Each month since July of 2012 the district has received $40,000 to $54,000 from the tax. The district said the intention was to abate taxes before voters approved of the sales tax.
Superintendent Gary Siebert said residents who live in a $60,000 house might expect a decrease of at least $150 in property tax and those in a $100,000 house might expect a decrease of $250.
