  • Love conquers all.
Multiple physical challenges could not dampen the love of Robert Brackney, 71, and Donna West, 69, both of Carrier Mills.
They married Friday April 12 at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Both move about in wheel chairs and as they were being wheeled to their wedding reception in the home's cafeteria, the couple enjoyed the enthusiastic applause of staff and friends in the hallway.
When asked to kiss for the cameras they happily obliged, taking their time to break it off.
"We may take a honeymoon later but we have been teasing everyone that we will just take a hammer and nails to our room and nail the door shut," said West.
The couple were married in a sunny day room attended by a crowd of about 25 friends and residents of the home. The ceremony was brief and to the point, eloquent in its simplicity. Robert rose from his wheelchair for the exchange of vows.
The happy couple met when Robert was transferred to Heritage Woods nursing home in McLeansboro due to the tornado. Donna was a resident at Heritage Woods and they soon knew they had something special in their relationship. They were sure of this in August of last year. They transferred together to Carrier Mills in March of this year.
They plan to continue living in Carrier Mills.
