This Saturday, Graham Hospital will be hosting its annual women's health fair. While there, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of health screenings and to get information on healthy living and wellness, including services available locally.
There will also be speakers, including myself. I'll be giving a talk called "Staying True; Navigating Life's Changes with Your Priorities intact."
The gist of the talk will center around the importance of clearly identified and defined personal values. When we are clear on the things we value the most highly, we're much more likely to be able to weather the storms of change that none of us can ever fully keep at bay.
Here is a snippet from the speech:
"Many of us have heard the old adage: 'The only constant is change.' Our bodies and minds change, our relationships change, the world changes. If we are going to thrive in this life, we’d better be adaptable.
While there is a risk in refusing to adapt, to being brittle and slow to change, there is a risk in the other direction, too. We can be so flexible that we don’t stand for anything. We just bounce from event to event, adapting to changes, but never truly navigating them.
For navigation implies direction. And while we don’t control the seas, we can control the direction of the boat. This power, this ability to aim our lives at something, serves as a foundation for a meaningful life."
If you want to hear more, you'll have to come to Graham Hospital on Saturday morning. The fair starts at 10, I'll be speaking at 11:15.
