  • Cathy Lynn Nelson, 55, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in her home surrounded by her family and friends.

  • Cathy Lynn Nelson, 55, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in her home surrounded by her family and friends.
    Cathy was born Oct. 5, 1957, in Marion to Gary and Beverly Trammel. She married Stephen Nelson on Sept. 25, 1980.
    Cathy attended school in Harrisburg and graduated from Southeastern Illinois College with an associate degree in forestry and from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture plant biology and landscaping. She was employed at Plantscape Nursery in Herrin and always had a smile for her customers and enjoyed waiting on them.
    Cathy loved her job and loved working her chosen field. Cathy was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Cathy was a Methodist by faith.
    Surviving family members include her husband, Stephen; son, Eli (Rachel) Nelson of Harrisburg; son, C. J. Nelson of Springfield, Mo.; Nichole Nelson of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Aaron, Abigail, Brileigh Nelson and Tyler Hicks; her parents, Gary and Beverly Trammel of Harrisburg; three brothers, Gary L. (Cynthia) Trammel of Harrisburg, Scott (Lori) Trammel of Harrisburg, Andy (Laura) Trammel of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
    According to her wishes, Cathy’s body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Harrisburg with the Rev. Christine Cunningham officiating. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
    A special thanks to her doctors, the staff at Heartland Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nelson family in care of Eli Nelson.  Envelopes will be available at the church. The J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.
