  • The Harrisburg High School baseball team cooled off Benton Tuesday afternoon in Benton. The Bulldogs scored 17 runs on 18 hits in a 17-6 six-inning win over the Rangers. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak the Rangers had coming into the game.
Harrisburg roughed up Benton starter Zack Mocaby with seven runs in the first inning.
After Harrisburg stretched its lead to 10-0 in the top of the third, Benton rallied with six runs in the bottom of the third and pulled within 10-6. Harrisburg, however, tacked on two runs in the fourth and added five more in the sixth.
University of Illinois signee Ryne Roper led of the game with a solo home run off Mocaby, who lasted just 2/3 of an inning and allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits and a walk. Both of the starter's outs came via strikeout.
Gus Gibbs came in in relief and allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Reliever Caleb Kearney also pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits. Logan Threlkeld followed and allowed five runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings. Martin Ward got the game's last two outs.
Despite his rough day on the mound, Mocaby led the Benton offense with two hits and two RBI's. Tyler Owens added a hit and three RBI's, while Gibbs, Ward, Dakota Head and Cameron Rock each added a hit.
Roper finished the day 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Cooper Thompson went 3-for-5 with two RBI's, while Brady Mayer went 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Chris Wilsey, Matthew Phipps, Syke Thompson and Cody Hall all drove in two runs each for Harrisburg.
Hall picked up the win for Harrisburg despite allowing six runs in just 2 1/3 innings. Blake Buchanan blanked the Rangers in 3 2/3 innings of work to finish the game.
