The Harrisburg District Library hosts Peter Fletcher, classical guitarist, in a concert that is free and open to the public 7 p.m. Thursday.
The program follows the Friends of the Library annual meeting. Refreshments will be provided.
This will be Fletcher’s third appearance at the library. The concert is part of a nationwide tour and follows a recital at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall on April 6. At that recital Fletcher performed the world premier of “Diary of a Camino” by American composer Jeremy Gill.
In addition to the Gill piece, Fletcher’s program will include major works by Bach and Catalan composer Federico Mampou. Fletcher has recorded an all-Mampou album.
Other composers featured are Michael Praetorius, Enrique Granados, Maurice Ravel and Isaac Albeniz. The finale will be the dazzling Caprice No. 24 by Paganini.
Peter Fletcher performs over 100 concerts a year. He plays standard works, some of which he has worked on for years, like the Bach piece which he has played since he was 13. He believes in expanding the rather limited guitar repertoire by transcribing music from other instruments.
