  • Prep Baseball: Eagles take weekend split from Du Quoin

  • The Eldorado High School baseball team split a pair of games with Du Quoin Saturday at the EHS Sports Complex, winning the first game 13-9, before falling in Game 2 18-7.
    In the second game, the Eagles' offense was paced at the plate by Jordan Pilkington, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
    Garrison Hathaway also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, while Tyler Deaton, Brennan Unthank, Devin Aldridge and Adam Collier all came away with a hit.
    Aldridge had two RBIs, while Collier had one. Deaton, Unthank, Aldridge, Collier, along with Dakota Prather all scored a run.
    Du Quoin jumped out on top 3-0 in the first half of the inning, before Eldorado responded for four runs of their own. The Indians then tacked on three runs in the second and seven runs in the third inning.
    The Eagles manufactured two more runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to seven runs, but Du Quoin connoted to pour on the runs, putting up five more in the fourth inning to short game Eldorado.
    Aldridge took the loss, going 2 2/3 of an inning, giving up nine earned runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out one.
    Drew Woolcott relieved Aldridge and gave up two earned runs on two hits, before being replaced by Bradon Van Zant, who went two innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
    In Game 1, Eldorado scored in every inning but the second in the 13-9 victory.
    Aldridge and Pilkington both went 4-for-4 at the plate with Aldridge scoring four runs and driving in five RBIs. Pilkington drove in three runs and scored two.
    Collier finished up 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Unthank, Kaleb Williams and both Garrison and Stanton Hathaway each had a hit.
    Garriston Hathaway got the start, but only lasted two innings, giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking five.
    Collier came on in relief and figured in for the win, going four innings and giving up five earned runs on six hits. Collier struck out three and walked two.
    Jordan Pilkington pitched a scoreless seventh, issuing a walk and striking out one batter.
    On Friday, Eldorado eased by Hamilton County for a 13-2 victory.
    Both Tyler Deaton and Brennan Unthank were 2-for-3 as Deaton scored three runs and Unthank drove in three and scored two.
    Devin Aldridge, Jordan Pilkington, Dylan Roberts, Kaleb Williams and Chance Gilbert all had a hit.
    Roberts had three RBIs on the day, while Williams drove in two and Collier had one.
    Gilbert and Pilkington each scored a pair of runs, while Dakota Prather and Roberts scored one run.
    Page 2 of 2 - Pilkington went the distance for the Eagles in the win, giving up two earned runs on three hits, while striking out three and walking two.
    Harrisburg 9, Urbana 0
    Ryne Roper was dominant once again on the mound as he struck out 15 in Harrisburg's 9-0 no-hit shut out victory over Urbana Saturday in Springfield.
    At the plate, Roper went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs, while Matthew Phipps also banged out two hits, while driving in three runs.
    Cody Hall, Cooper Thompson, Brady Mayer, Noah Vallette and Bryant Bennett also had a hit, with Thompson, Mayer and Bennett all driving in runs.
    Hall and Mayer scored twice over the weekend, while Vallette, Phipps and Chris Willsey all scored a run.
