Weather permitting, the U.S. Forest Service was planning to conduct a prescribed burn Wednesday in the One Horse Gap area of the Forest, according to a release from the Shawnee National Forest.
The prescribed burn area involves approximately 1,300 acres in Pope County, consisting of the General Forest Area just west of One Horse Gap Lake. Forest Service Fire personnel will carefully monitor smoke being generated during the prescribed burn, according to the release.
The public is asked to stay out of the area and refrain from traveling on the One Horse Gap Dam Road and Benham Hill Road Wednesday.
The public can expect the bulk of smoke to be visible in mid-afternoon and dissipate after dark.
