The parents of a premature son, Brad and Keri Karnes will get help with lodging and medical expenses for their infant son Braylon, who was born prematurely on Feb. 14, 2013, at 25 weeks and weighing only 1 pound 5 ounces.
"He has doubled his weight since he was born," said Keri. "He is off his ventilator and weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces. He is eating well," she said. "We would like to relay a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis and to the thousands of people who are praying for Braylon."
It is expected that the Karnes’ will be in St. Louis with Braylon until late June 2013, assuming that he has no other medical issues. Ronald McDonald House is currently not available due to construction, said Jo Anne Fox, fundraiser organizer. Overall, the expenses of lodging and travel for Brad and Keri will add up quickly. Braylon has already had one heart surgery and the total bill is estimated by a hospital caseworker to reach $1 million.
Insurance will pay 80 percent of that. The parents will be responsible for 20 percent. The helicopter flight from St. Louis to Carbondale and back to St. Louis cost $47,000 said Fox.
In order to help with these expenses, $20 tickets will be sold for the purchase of an 8-10 pound Smoked Boston Butt. Throughout the month of April, tickets will be sold, and the Smoked Boston Butt will be available for pick-up during each weekend in April. The locations for ticket purchase and the Boston Butt pick-up include: One Fine Day Salon and Photography, Rick Milligan Insurance, Pampered Paws and Little Caesar’s Pizza in Harrisburg.
All purchases and donations will be greatly appreciated said Fox.
