Another exciting weekend of entertainment is coming to the stage of the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center at Southeastern Illinois College beginning this Friday.
This weekend the Harrisburg High School Drama Department is presenting "Seussical the Musical!"
The show features all of the favorite Dr. Seuss characters as they come to life on stage through singing and dancing.
"We picked this show because it is something different than we've done in the past," said HHS drama director Hannah Naas Drake. "It's challenged our students and allowed us to see their fun and creative sides."
Over 60 students from the Harrisburg school district are participating in the performance. The undertaking of the show has even involved the help of several students and instructors behind the scenes.
"With the show of this size, it would be impossible to be prepared without the help of our great faculty and students at Harrisburg High School," said Drake. "Rick Walter and his building trade classes have constructed amazing set pieces, and Sara DeNeal and her art classes have played a huge role in all of the artwork and design. Janet Hart is a treasure to have around with her great taste in costuming, and we were even fortunate enough to have SIC's Allan Kimball come speak to our theater class and help design the set concepts for the show."
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased by calling 618-253-7637 ext. 2169.
