Well, it is too early to say that. But it was great that that we had 15 folks turn out for a three-week series on learning to practice mindfulness meditation. This class is conducted by yours truly, and is being graciously hosted by the Canton YWCA. The response has been so good, that we’ll almost certainly do another one in the near future.
In addition, Spoon River Counseling & Wellness was invited by Liz Utzinger to do three 30-minute workshops on mindfulness for last Friday’s retreat for Students With Advocacy Training (SWAT), a large group of area high school students committed to helping their peers and their communities. There were about 20 kids in each group. What a fantastic group of young people they were, too. Teenagers so often get a bad rap, it was really great to work with a bunch of polite, respectful, curious and bright young people.
There are a number of benefits that one may derive from the practice of mindfulness, including increased health, psychological well-being and improved performance. It seems as though there are a number of local folks who agree.
