Andrew Drone was the only Gallatin County player to score in double figures in Friday night’s regional title game, but at 6-foot-11 and the ability to score at will, there isn’t much more that you need.
Drone’s 19 first half points helped the Hawks take a 35-22 lead at intermission his 15 second half points, along with a lock down defensive approach allowed Gallatin County to claim the 1A Regional championship with a 66-42 win over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield.
The regional win was the third straight for Gallatin County and head coach Robert Patton, who now move on to the Hardin County Sectional.. The Hawks will play Steeleville Wednesday night.
Gallatin County jumped out to a 13-7 first quarter lead and took a seven-point lead into the locker room.
However, in the second half, the Hawks put the hammer down on NOCE in the second half, holding the Cardinals to just 12 total points in the final 16 minutes.
Patrick Lowe added eight points for Gallatin County, while Josh Belford chipped in with seven. Dane Hish and Anthony Storto each had six and Wes McGuire tacked on three points.
Gallatin County is now 26-3 on the season, while NCOE closes out the season at 17-11.
